45st REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT

7/16/13       ANNUAL HOMECOMING REUNION-SOP'S

7/16/13       SMN CLASS OF 71 NOW ON FACEBOOK

Knowing that there are classmates on facebook that have not supplied us with their contact info, I have taken the time to reach out to those people and created a group page for our class. There are 87 of us there. If you're not, come on in.

9/15/12       ANNUAL HOMECOMING REUNION-SOP'S

Some of you asked for it so here we go again. We are one week away from the SMN homecoming football game which means we are one week away from ignoring the game and gathering again at SOP's. If you never had a drink at SOP’s (Some Other Place) now is your chance. It’s been through many owners and name changes since our day and is now Sully's Pub. It is still a bar and grill. They have a pool table, foosball table, several dart boards, enough tv’s with sports on them to make you forget about the game down the street, a private deck in back, and a digital juke box upon which I know we can find something besides Lady Gaga. But most of all, they will welcome us back with open arms and open hearts … as long as we’re buying. So check out the new SOP at http://sullyskc.com/mission.php at 5411 Johnson Dr. in Mission and make your plans to join us there after 6:30 on Friday, September 21. If you are thinking about coming, please let me know. If there are enough of us, I will need to let Sully's know so they can staff up for us. Remember, we want to keep this open invitation open.

9/17/12 Thanks to a tip from Gigi Diggs, it has been discovered that the class of 70 is following us back to school this Saturday morning (9/22) to tour the school. They will be meeting at 9:30am “BY CAFETERIA SOUTH DOWN THE HALL FROM THE LIBRARY.” After contacting them, I have been granted permission for our class to crash their party. Anyone who missed the opportunity last month or wants to go again can do so this coming Saturday morning. In return, they have been invited to join us Friday night. They're going to the game and missing out on the real fun.

41st REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT

3/20/12       FUN NIGHT OUT

Jim Pumphrey has weighed in with this little gem. in his words:"How about using the reunion mailing list you have to see who might be interested in attending SMN's production of "Little Shop of Horrors", March 27, 28, 29, 30 & 31. This years big musical is,"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", January 26, 27 and 28. But I was thinking the LSOH might be more appropriate for our group. heh heh heh Plus, LSOH has more performance dates. I have been attending SMN plays and musicals for the past four years and the kids are really amazing. Tickets are like $8 [cheap!!!] and parking is free. Just a thought."

For those not familliar with Little Shop Of Horrors, it bagan as a 1960, low budget, Roger Corman b&w vehicle with an early career appearance by Jack Nicholson which has become a cult classic. The movie was adopted to the Broadway stage in 1982 as a musical and then became a movie of the play of the movie in 1987. If you haven't seen the original, see it. I've seen a recent stage production of the musical and it is a lot of fun. I will likely be there for one of the nights. You should too.

2/20/12       SITE LAUNCH (or how I spent my winter hibernation)

As a retired programmer, I forgot how consuming programming was and how hard it is to work with asp (the programming language this site was written in). After over 200 man hours (I say that singularly because all the time put in on the developement of this site was mine) of relentless effort and hair pulling, (note:I still have a lot of it left.) and experiencing the 2 most frustrating days I have had since I can't even remember, I have finally met my goal of presenting an online classmate contact directory. You now have the capability to maintain your own contact information within this database for the benefit of all. After last year's efforts to find and verify contact information, we now have valid information for 300 of our 600 classmates. Your email address is very important for us to keep in touch with you for future announcements. Please make sure we have a current email address for you so we can keep you posted of reunion and other activities and announcements. I know many of you have information on other classmates which are coded as missing. I know because they showed up at the reunion last year. One of you notified them. And that's a good thing. But now you can update their information and bring them out of the dark abyss of the lost list. You will not be able to flag someone as deceased. I can just see someone offing everyone out of anger/spite/whatever that crawled into their drawers. But you may contact me with the information and I will make that update. Hopefully, you won't keep me too busy. It is set up to display our senior photo taken from the yearbook as well as a current picture. So please submit a current photo to me via email at wascals@juno.com for posting. You are able to email fellow classmates right out of this directory if an email address is available so again, please keep your email address current. I have even made provisions for shameless self promotion. If you have a web site, feel free to post it on your page. I know contact information can be a sensitive issue but I wish to leave it open until the reunion is over. Then it will be reduced to classmates only. Because the information is stored in a database, the information stored should not show up in any search engines. Would you like to know if there is a classmate living near you? Planning a trip? Would you like to know if there is anyone close to where you are going? Wanna organize a car pool to this year's reunion? Try the classmate search feature by state. Want to know who's still around SMN? Select the "Kansas City" option in the state drop down box. The reunion page will host anouncements, feedback following the event and photos submitted. Last year's 40th reunion has been posted. There is also a facility to post announcements of general interest to our class. Just submit them to me. If you have any problems using this directory, please let me know so i can address it. If there is something else you would like it to do, just let me know and I'll see if i can do it. Here it is. Enjoy it while you can.
