Seems I remember someone saying “the memories we take with us from high school will last a lifetime.” Don’t know about that. “If I knew then what I know now” is much more interesting. But the memories and stories I took home from our reunion weekend …

As the memories start to fade on our 40th reunion (it’s like that as we get older) I’d first like to thank everyone who helped make it happen. Everyone who helped. Everyone who offered to help. Everyone who made phone calls. Everyone who helped get the word out by forwarding the emails to other classmates. And a special thanks to everyone who showed up. You made it a successful weekend. And while we didn’t expect you out-of-towners to join us, a few of you did.

As Friday night’s festivities wound up and I was closing my tab at Sully’s, the owner said he was open to having us back again. Hmmm, must not have been like the parties we had in high school. We got the numbers we expected as classmates came and went all night. I’m not really surprised no one went to the homecoming game. We were too busy having too much fun. I know I didn’t get around to talking to everyone and I apologize because I meant to. Many disappointments from people who didn’t make it and plenty of surprises from those who did.

As I was setting up for our row party Saturday night, the owner came by. We got to talking about class reunions and he said he only knew of 2 others besides himself that were still alive from his class. Okay, he was 25 years older than me but that’s kind of scary, isn’t it? We ate our way through the desserts. Sugar better than popcorn. Thanks to all who contributed. We had people show who couldn’t make the night before. I swear some of us disappeared right after the first movie started. I was right. No cartoon. It would have been the highlight of the movies. Collectively, we struggled to follow the first movie. 3 of us didn’t struggle through the second one. We talked all the way through it. It was a great idea but the cool weather put a definite damper on us partiers. But despite the cool weather, I had a warm fuzzy going home.

As I predicted, the fun for me Sunday was bumping into our classmates as we browsed the swap and shop at the Cowtown Ballroom. Some of us even made purchases. For a change, it was nice that Nick was such a perfectionist on the sound that the music started late. It gave us more time to chat and less music to interrupt us. More newbies. Who played? Couldn’t tell you. Not impressed. Didn’t care. And then the weekend was over with plenty of money in my pockets and memories to last until Monday. Some Monday well into the future.

I did hear from a few attendees and some who couldn’t make it. The general impression was “too much fun, can we tone it down a bit for next year.” NO! If you attended and took pictures, can you please send copies to me. I will try to create some sort of web page or word document collage for the benefit of all. If you didn’t attend, don’t send pictures. If you attended and have comments, let me know. If you have comments for next year, let me know. Speaking of next year, there was a motion to have a planning meeting in November. I think combining this with first Friday in the crossroads would be fun. So if you are available and would like to help, have input, or just show for the fun of it, please let us know and we will get details out as soon as I can get them solidified.

Dear Greg,

Thank you very much for all the time, effort and expense you put into pulling this reunion together. You did a wonderful job of planning and keeping people informed. If you had not done so, I am sure it never would have come off. You are a kind and gracious man. I am glad you are my friend.

You did a kind and good thing for many people, me included.

Thank you so much for everything

Sincerely,

Nancy Land (Heilbron)

Hi Greg!
Thanks for all the work it took to pull off these mini-reunions! It was wonderful to see old friends again...can't wait for the 41st, if there is anything I can do from afar let me know.
Thanks again,
Christine Williams (Shumate)
Hey greg! The band was the Silver Maggots on sunday. Name is permanently etched in my memory for the love of God!
Sherry Hugi
What the hell! Tone it down! I think you did an excellent job Greg. I got to see Bobby Patton again. Heard with sorrow of Mark Gaul's passing. Got to shake Christy Korchacks hand(almost broke her little delicate hand) and got to start the Wild Bill Carter chant and shake hands with Bill and meet his wife. Saw John Lynn,Alan Warnock,Mike Alley and Nancy Heilbron among others and was even recognized by several people myself!
I think next years reunion she be a wild one. At least as wild as you can get at 59 years of age. Anybody wants to tone down next years reunion, tell em to check into the nursing home!
Geoff Rose
